The Alexis de Tocqueville library in Caen, France has opened its doors following an extensive £54.6m ($70.7m USD, €63 m) remodel.
The state-of-the-art library was designed by architect Rem Koolhaas, from Dutch architecture firm OMA.
Shaped like a St Andrew’s cross, the building plays host to over a million works of art, organised into four themed areas: Arts, literature, sciences & technologies and human sciences.
The sciences & technologies area, an impressive glass centre, welcomes visitors with a spectacular semi-cylindrical video fresco. Due to the natural lighting and the unusual size of the projection area (22m by 5m) the fresco presented a number of challenges to integrate.
To overcome these issues Auvisys, a Caen-based company who handled the audio-visual installations, opted for Digital Projections’ two ceiling 3-Chip DLP HIGHlite projectors. The projector was selected for its high resolution image quality, brightness and low maintenance upkeep.
Chris Axford, Digital Projection’s international sales & marketing director, says: “We were delighted that Auvisys selected our projectors for use in this flagship installation. They did a superb job of integrating all the AV with the static museum pieces and together they provide a truly world class attraction.”
