DJ Willrich installs Digital Projection in Mail Rail experience at London's Postal Museum
18 Jan 2018 . BY Lauren Heath-Jones
DJ Willrich installed five E-Vision 8500 projectors throughout the Mail Rail experience
Integration firm DJ Willrich (DJW) has installed several of Digital Projection’s E-Vision 8500 projectors at the Mail Rail experience at The Postal Museum in London.

The Mail Rail was a network of underground trains used to transport millions of letters across the city of London. It closed in 2003 after almost eighty years of service, and has now been repurposed as an attraction, taking visitors on a 15-minute train ride through the original tunnels. It tells the story of the postal service through a 20-minute audio-visual experience, that includes narration, 3D mapped projection and large-scale multimedia displays. The experience features five E-Vision 8500 projectors and is supported by 7thSense's Delta Infinity Server.

The E-Vision 8500 was selected following projection testing at the initial design stage. It is capable of emitting 8500 lumens from a solid-state light source, and can produce over 20,000 hours of illumination. The projector doesn't require lamp replacements, due to the solid state light source, so needs virtually no maintenance.

DJW project director at Josh Miller, says: "Due to the nature of the attraction, minimising maintenance was a key factor in the selection of laser projection. It was clear that the E-Vision Laser 8500 was the ideal projector for the project in terms of image quality, brightness levels, durability and value for money."

Emma Harper, exhibitions officer at The Postal Museum, says: "The AV hardware was critical to the success of this project, providing the backbone to the exhibition and ride experiences."

Harper adds: "Our key aspiration was to connect people through the evolving story of communications past and present, and show that postal heritage is of interest and relevance to everyone. Bringing the Mail Rail platforms to life played an important part, 3D projection mapping really helped us to achieve this."

Mark Wadsworth, International Marketing manager at Digital Projection, comments: "We're thrilled that DJW deployed the E-Vision Laser 8500 projectors across the Mail Rail project, making us part of such an impressive attraction which brings an important piece of history back to life."

Wadsworth adds: "This project really demonstrates just how our innovative technology can be applied in a truly creative way, and also enable stories to be told that might otherwise have been left forgotten."
