Shapewatch launches industry-first augmented reality body scanning experience

Shapewatch is the fitness industry's first augmented reality progress tracking experience
Fitness tech start-up Shapewatch has developed a body visualisation tool that enables users to track their fitness journeys through 3D body scanning.

Also called Shapewatch, the scanner is billed as the fitness industry's first augmented reality progress tracking experience. It is designed to provide continuous motivation for users, by allowing them to scan their bodies, monitor their key biometrics and witness their changing body shapes.

Backed by Global Scanning, a market leader in scanning technology, and private equity firm Procuritas, the Shapewatch system consists of an automated self-service kiosk and an app, which offers users a detailed visual account of their biometrics, including body fat percentage, lean body mass and waist to hip ratio.

Users simply stand in front of the scanner and follow the instructions displayed on the kiosk. Once scanned users can access their results through the app.

"We put Shapewatch to the test through extensive trials in a well-known global gym franchise and the results were impressive," said Shapewatch sales director Alan Louden.

"It enables clubs to boost revenue and secondary spend because its powerful transformation tracking abilities make it easier to add value to both PT and nutritional programmes when users can connect actions with results," he added.

Shapewatch marketing director Jurjen Söhne said: "Shapewatch delivers on today's tech megatrend: the desire for quantifiable health data and body analytics as well as workout and weight loss app adoption. Using goal setting, gamification, social sharing and accountability - it harnesses the very digital experiences that are key to motivation

"With an open API enabling app integrations and continual product development, as we gather more and more user data. Shapewatch intends to continually transform its digital experiences, much like the product itself transforms its users," Söhne added.
