Eleiko to build state-of-the-art logistics centre in Halmstad
21 Jun 2021 . BY Journalist
The new 18,000sq m facility will be built on a plot next to Eleiko's headquarters in Kistinge / Eleiko
Eleiko, a leading manufacturer and supplier of strength equipment, is set to build a new 18,000 sqm state-of-the-art logistics centre expanding its footprint in Halmstad, Sweden.

The building will be just over 18,000 square meters and will be built on a plot next to Eleiko's headquarters in Kistinge. The investment is an important part of the company's long-term strategy for continued growth and initiatives to optimise the level of service and customer experience. The property is expected to be completed during Q3 2022.

LARGER PRODUCTION AREA AND NEW JOB OPPORTUNITIES

With the new logistics centre, space is freed up in the current building, which can be repurposed. Eleiko plans to expand its in-house production, more than doubling the current production area.

"Eleiko is always evolving, and to enable our continued growth journey, we need larger and more optimised logistics and production facilities to meet the demand for our products. By moving the warehouse, we can expand with more in-house manufacturing – one of many steps that Eleiko takes to continuously improve our products and lead times for our customers. The new logistics centre, together with other investments in logistics, will be an important driving force for meeting our customers' needs, both now and in the future,” says Erik Blomberg, CEO of Eleiko.

For the new logistics centre, Eleiko plans to recruit and create more job opportunities locally.

"We are grateful to have had the opportunity to hire many new colleagues in the past year, both in Sweden and abroad. We look forward to being able to strengthen our team further,” says Johan Arnerlind, Sweden manager at Eleiko.

The logistics centre is also an important milestone in Eleiko's extensive sustainability work.

"We have taken big steps in recent years in our sustainability work and with the new logistics centre, which will be an environmental building, we will take further steps, as we will, among other things, invest in solar energy. Our goal is to reduce our electricity consumption by 20 per cent by 2024,” says Arnerlind.

INCREASED DEMAND FOR STRENGTH EQUIPMENT

Eleiko has been at the forefront of meeting the increasing demand for strength training equipment. With over 60 years of experience in professional weightlifting, powerlifting and para powerlifting, Eleiko has since expanded into several professional sports, commercial gyms and facilities, in the military and most recently launching an e-commerce for both B2B and B2C customers to meet the growing interest for strength equipment.

"Traditionally, we have been a B2B company, with professional sports and gyms as primary customers. Last year, we strengthened our position in the consumer market and launched our web shop after an accelerated development phase. This new channel has been important to be able to serve our customers with a range specially adapted for home training, as a complement to regular gym training,” says Arnerlind.

CONTINUED GLOBAL EXPANSION

Eleiko is also growing globally. The company recently started a subsidiary in France, and earlier this spring, Eleiko moved their US headquarters from Chicago to Austin, creating a logistics hub for North America. The Austin headquarters triples Eleiko's current warehouse capacity and houses a modern logistics centre for faster order processing, greater delivery flexibility and quality control, offices, a warehouse, and world-class sports centre.
