A £1.1m revamp of Blackburn town centre has seen the installation of a 32ft-high modern light feature.
'The Braid'- which has the appearance of a fat fibre-optic cable emerging from the ground - forms the centrepiece of the Sudell Cross area and was designed by Simon Watkinson and built by specialist bespoke metal fabrication and stainless steel architecture company, M-TEC of Darwen, part of the WEC Group.
The sculpture is now lit throughout the day and night with a changing array of colours, a feature which it is hoped will attract visitors to enjoy the space created and - more importantly - spend money in local shops, cafes and restaurants.
The lighting was supplied from Stage Electrics in Bristol. The lights used were Martin Architectural’s Light Pipe and the fittings used were Color Kinetics Colorburst 6 LED sources.
